City of Halstad Flood Control Levee Improvement Project Update
The City of Halstad, in cooperation with the Wild Rice Watershed District, began work this summer on improvements to the Halstad Flood Control Levee system. These improvements are being completed in order to maintain accreditation from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). As you may know, FEMA recently updated the flood insurance rate maps for Norman County. Without the improvements that are underway, the current levee would have been de-accredited requiring many homeowners to obtain flood insurance. Construction is progressing well and the project is on track to be substantially completed by October 15, 2019. As part of the project, concrete work on the two new lift stations along the west side of the City has been ongoing throughout the summer. Once the walls are completed, the levee will be rebuilt to grade yet this fall 2018. The proposed levee extension on the north side of the City will be constructed during the 2019 construction season. We appreciate the patience and cooperation from City residents as this important project progresses. Halstad will be fully protected from spring flooding.

East Side Park Shelter Closed for the Winter
With the cold temperatures that the month of October has brought us, the East Side Park shelter bathrooms and kitchenette are now closed until spring. Use of the playground equipment is still encouraged as the weather allows. Please plan accordingly as the bathrooms have been winterized.
