Norman County West School District
Norman County West High School, home of the Panthers, is located in the heart of Halstad. The district is known for its low student to teacher ratio and an outstanding vocal and instrumental music program.
The Norman County West school district stretches the length of western Norman County, along with many students in eastern Traill County in North Dakota and Clay County in Minnesota. The Elementary School is located just 7 miles south of Halstad in Hendrum.
In addition to the basic state requirements, the district offers classes in writing, algebra, and social studies for high school and college credit. Classes in computer applications, industrial technology classes, and a variety of classes in the fine arts are also available.
The regionally known music department includes junior and senior high concert band, as well as junior and senior high choirs. A pep band performs at sporting events, and a jazz band offers junior and senior high students additional musical experiences.
The Norman County West School district has long been known for implementing technology into classrooms. Each high school student receives an iPad to assist with their education, and a well-stocked media center is supervised by a paraprofessional. Two PC computer labs are available, as well as computers and smart boards in classrooms.
The community is always there to support the events and projects of students. From theater to sports and everything in between, if there is an event at the school, community members are there to support their efforts.
